2010), France.
 Ph.D. Computer Science, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Chile (2010)
 Master in Information Technology, and Engineering in Information Technology,
Universidad de Santiago de Chile (2004)

Miguel Carrasco received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Université Pierre et
Marie Curie – Paris 6 (France) at the Institut des Systèmes Intelligents et de Robotique
(ISIR) in 2010, and a Doctorate in Computer Science from Pontificia Universidad
Católica de Chile the same year under a cooperation agreement on Jointly Supervised
Ph.D., from which he was awarded a Scholarship from the Collège Doctoral Franco-
Chilien in 2007. In 2004, he received his Bachelor in Engineering Sciences (First place)
and Master of Engineering Sciences in Information Technology degrees with the
highest honors from the Department of Information Engineering at Universidad de
Santiago de Chile. His work is focused on Image Processing, Industrial applications,
and Human-Computer Interaction. He is interested in the development of automatic
algorithms based on image processing and computer vision theory. His main research
topics are i) image processing for biology (virus, pollen segmentation), ii) computer
vision for industrial inspection, iii) Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), and iv) failure
prediction based on pattern recognition. Past and current research includes on human-
computer interaction, users’ gaze gesture prediction with eye-trackers, automatic
multiple visual inspections, telemedicine-based on IoT, plants analysis.
Currently, Miguel Carrasco is Associate Professor of the School of Information and
Telecommunication Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Sciences at
